What it is
BarrierPilot is an active mechanical barrier against fibre-optic FPV drones. Such a drone cannot be jammed, because it is controlled through a physical fibre — and that fibre is its weak point. The system puts a moving obstacle in the aircraft's path that snags the fibre and cuts it, after which the operator loses control of the drone. It is used for engineering protection of critical infrastructure, for covering positions and perimeters, for denying air access to a defined zone, and for protecting personnel at their place of deployment.
How it works
A Kevlar cable fitted with catchers is stretched between supports. A motor unit keeps the cable running continuously through pulleys and mounting blocks. When a drone's fibre lands on the cable, a catcher picks it up and drags it to the support post, where a fixed blade cuts it. The mechanics are built for high force: a 24 V 100 W motor rated up to 11,000 rpm drives a 1:96 gearbox, giving 350–400 rpm at the output and substantial cable tension — which is what makes the catchers bite reliably. Cable direction is reversed instantly with an ON-OFF-ON three-position switch on the housing. The system is reusable: nothing has to be reloaded or replaced after it works.
Key advantages
- Effective against fibre-optic drones, where radio-based countermeasures cannot help by the very nature of the control link.
- Coverage up to 100 m on the supplied tripods; beyond 100 m the system is anchored to trees, poles or buildings to compensate for sag and tension.
- Reusable, with no consumable element to replace after each engagement.
- Hybrid 12–28 V DC power: the supplied 100 W (20 V, 5 A) mains unit or field batteries.
- A 150 W step-up DC-DC converter holds motor speed steady regardless of battery charge level.
- Low draw — up to 30 Wh with no load: about 10.5–11 hours from a 15,000 mAh pack and more than two days from a 70,000 mAh pack.
- Deploys without special tools; the whole system weighs 12 kg in a 600×350×290 mm package and is carried by one person.
- Withstands 100 % humidity at +35 °C, rain up to 5 mm/min and wind up to 20 m/s, operating from −20 °C to +40 °C.
Configurations and custom builds
The standard set includes the motor unit, the power supply, the mounting kit (two tripods 60–110 cm high, motor unit brackets, cable mounting blocks) and a 200 m cable reel. Other configurations are built to order to match customer requirements, provided they stay within the technical specification and do not degrade performance. Quantities of each component are agreed in the delivery specification, so cable length, number of supports and the deployment layout can be matched to a specific perimeter.
