Description

What it is

This onboard gearbox is a mechanical unit in a closed housing, designed to work as part of the drivetrain of an unmanned ground vehicle. It transmits torque from the drive to a wheel, sprocket or other output element, reducing rotation speed and increasing torque. It is the unit that decides whether the platform will actually pull up a slope, through mud, and under a real payload rather than a datasheet one.

How it works

The gearbox is bolted to a rigid frame through all the mounting holes provided; the output element — wheel or sprocket — is fitted to the output flange. The input must be coaxial with the drive shaft: misalignment cannot be pulled out with the mounting bolts, and trying to do so destroys bearings. The duty cycle follows the drive and the operating conditions. Rated continuous load is 250 kg per gearbox. A limit value of 500 kg is also defined, but strictly as a short-term limit, not a working mode.

Key advantages

  • 250 kg rated load per gearbox — an honest continuous figure rather than a peak number dressed up for a brochure.
  • Closed housing keeps moving parts away from dirt and accidental contact.
  • Bolt-on mounting through all provided holes and a flanged output — integration into an existing platform without redesigning it.
  • Repairable: the housing can be opened and units replaced by qualified personnel, followed by a functional check.
  • Supplied with a passport covering installation, first start-up and maintenance, so the unit is commissioned to a document rather than by feel.

An important note on platform sizing

The permissible gross weight of a UGV is not the load of one gearbox multiplied by the number fitted. Mass distribution, dynamic factors, suspension geometry, wheel offset, shock and side loads all have to be taken into account. Impacts, misalignment, a large wheel offset, hard braking and uneven mass distribution all reduce the permissible operating load. After an impact, rollover, overload or prolonged wheel slip the gearbox needs an unscheduled inspection.

Configurations and custom orders

The product ships in its base build; appearance, coating colour, protective cover type and the design of connecting elements may differ between modifications. Mounting hardware is supplied per the order specification. We work to order: if the mounting interface, flange or fixing pattern has to be matched to your platform, tell us — that is routine work here, not an exception.

Why PilotX

The gearbox is made in Ukraine. Production is certified to DSTU ISO 9001:2015 — two valid quality management certificates, No. СУЯ.013-26 and No. 80108.СУЯ.022-26, valid until 20 January 2029. Every unit comes with a passport including an acceptance certificate. Sensible pricing for the quality delivered, fast replies and realistic lead times. Price on request.
